Historic Frederick is one of Maryland’s most charming destinations, and it’s also perfectly located for exploring the greater DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia). From a stroll along Carroll Creek to a day trip to Washington, D.C., there’s no shortage of unforgettable experiences just a short drive away.

Historic Frederick
A walkable downtown of church spires, Civil War history and public art, all within a few blocks of Carroll Creek.

- Catoctin Mountain ParkOverlooks and shaded trails in the mountains above Thurmont.
- Gambrill State ParkThe closest big view to town, with stone overlooks built in the 1930s.
- Sugarloaf MountainA short, rewarding climb south of the city with views across the piedmont.

Events Happening That Weekend
Frederick has something on almost every weekend, from street festivals to outdoor concerts.
We will publish the line-up for our weekend closer to the date. Calendars for July 2027 are not open yet. Until then, these are the two places everything gets announced first.
